Position Description:

The Overdose Prevention Coordinator is a community-facing role that supports local overdose prevention efforts and expands programs and collaborations. This position engages with assigned communities through training and education on both opioid and other identified substance overdose prevention, including but not limited to the distribution of naloxone, and collaborates with multisector stakeholder groups to enhance overdose prevention initiatives.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Build Collaborative Relationships: Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with multisector stakeholder groups, such as, but not limited to, the Louisiana Department of Health’s Harm Reduction Distribution Hub and Louisiana Advisory Council on Heroin and Opioid Prevention and Education (HOPE Council). Utilize data to engage and partner with stakeholders on overdose prevention, treatment, harm reduction, and emergency response planning
  • Deliver Training Programs: Develop and execute comprehensive training programs, leveraging expertise in presenting to large groups to enhance learning outcomes
  • Community Engagement: Utilize advanced clinical skills to engage and motivate community members, addressing stigma through stigma-reducing tactics. Increase public awareness by conducting trainings and sharing knowledge on the opioid crisis, addiction brain science, compassion fatigue, and naloxone administration. Coordinate with providers to engage members with opioid use disorder (OUD) in continuous treatment with pharmacotherapy, increasing the chance for positive outcomes
  • Serve as a Liaison: Act as a liaison and connecting point within assigned regions, serving as a subject matter expert on the opioid epidemic, overdose prevention, and harm reduction
  • Identify and Develop Programs: Identify new programs, services, and market gaps. Share information with clinical and network teams to support service development. Utilize data analysis and stratification across key demographics such as race, ethnicity, age and ZIP Code to identify disparities and implement targeted interventions, such as provider education on the importance of pharmacotherapy to treat OUD

Required Qualifications: 

  • Licensed Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or Marriage or Family Counseling, or Licensed Ph.D., or Licensed Addiction Counselor, or an RN with 2 or more years of experience in behavioral health
  • Licenses must be active and unrestricted
  • Current, unrestricted driver’s license and access to reliable transportation
  • 2 years of experience in a opioid-related mental health environment working in the local community
  • Demonstrate expertise in public speaking and training delivery, confidently presenting complex information to diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to use a PC in a Windows environment, including email and Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently and responsibly with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain direct and open communication with all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive issues with peer, members and providers in a confidential manner
  • Demonstrated ability and flexibility to assume responsibilities and tasks in a constantly changing work environment
  • Proven excellent customer service, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Proven solid team player and team building skills
  • Demonstrate initiative in achieving individual, team, and organizational goals and objectives
  • Proven solid oral and written communication skills - specifically telephone skills
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to travel as needed within assigned area (up to 75%)

The salary range for this role is $71,600 to $140,600 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
