1. Education: Must have high school education or equivalent. Prefer Medical Records formal education or experience in Medical Records.
2. Training, Experience and Job Knowledge: Prefer Medical Records formal training or experience in Medical Records. This includes terminology, HIPAA training, compliance, legal aspects of medical record functions. Should be familiar or experienced with computers, fax machines, photocopiers, retrieval process for microfilm and scanning.
3. Safety Sensitive: NO
In the interest of protecting the health and safety of all patients, associates, and guests, Unity Health has classified some positions as “safety sensitive.” A “safety sensitive” position is any job position in which impaired performance could result in harm to the health and/or safety of self or others. Any associate that is actively engaged in the use of medical marijuana, even if in possession of a valid medical marijuana card, will be excluded from employment in a “safety sensitive” position.
DESCRIPTION:
The medical records file clerk is responsible for filing all patient reports, pulls and refiles all charts, handles release of information as directed, and serves as backup on telephone.
Requires normal or corrected eyesight. Hearing within normal range. Frequent walking. Frequent continuous sitting and use of computer terminal. Occasional lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds. He or she should have a pleasant, cooperative attitude over the telephone and when dealing with all customers including Medical Records associates. Performs duties in an area where procedures are standardized, but where frequent independent decisions are required. Assists others in department as necessary.
