Responsibilities:
- Accountable for the volunteer recruitment, application and onboarding process, training and the general management, supervision, and support of volunteers in assigned service areas. Plans and coordinates volunteer service placements and changes of assignments; establishes schedules and assignments for volunteers.
- Assists, co-leads or supports the planning and coordination of new volunteer opportunities, programs, and projects for Volunteer Services. Continuously evaluates for effectiveness and impact-making changes that meets the best outcome and interests.
- Responsible for volunteer coaching, training, skill, and talent development to maximize their potential and engagement.
- Develops ongoing relationships with supervisory and managerial staff throughout the hospitals to develop and coordinate volunteer programs to obtain desired results; partners with assigned service supervisors/staff links on the supervision and recognition of volunteers.
- Serves as a key representative of Volunteer Services within the organization; communicates on the use of volunteers, trends in Volunteer Services and best practices; provides information as requested on Volunteer Services; engages with hospital executives, management, and staff to stay connected to the needs of organization.
- Works closely with Volunteer Services Coordinators across hospital campuses and other key hospital departments to establish parallel processes for Volunteer Services.
- Actively participates in the overall leadership of the Volunteer Services department contributing to the formation of its vision, policies, standards, and culture.
- Contributes to the maintenance of volunteer files, documents, and records to ensure all policies/procedures and regulatory guidelines are followed; prepares a variety of written materials; in conjunction with the Volunteer Services Department Office Manager, contributes to and maintains the computerized record system/database to store and process data for evaluation and reporting; responsible for data collection, documentation, and interpretation of outcomes of reports.
- Plans and coordinates for volunteer appreciation including events, celebrations, individual and group recognition; fosters a positive, fun, and rewarding environment and culture; recognizes and shows appreciation on a daily basis.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements
Preferred or Specialized
Education:
Bachelor's degree required.
Degree in communications, education, health sciences, health care or non-profit management/administration, human resources, human services, marketing or social work.
Experience:
Previous volunteer coordination work experience.
- Project management experience.
- Demonstrated experience as a volunteer.
Volunteer coordination in a hospital/health care setting strongly preferred.
- Volunteer and/or employee supervisory experience.
- Recruitment, training and development experience.
- Personnel record maintenance and information processing.
License(s)/Certification(s):
Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
Certified Administrator of Volunteer Services (CAVS).
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Exceptional organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and demonstrated computer literacy.
- Demonstrated ability to inspire, engage and train volunteers and staff.
- Demonstrated understanding of volunteer demographics and intergenerational dynamics, preferred communication, recognition needs and motivations of the current multigenerational workforce.
- Strong vision for growth and development of Volunteer Services.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Passion for and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).
Proficiency in volunteer management software solutions, including Volgistics, strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in SharePoint.
- Proficiency in managing organizational/business social media accounts.
