Department: ICU RN
Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Important: Block scheduling and fixed shifts are not permitted. Candidates must be flexible, willing to float, and available to work as needed.
- Bed Count: 33 beds; average daily census is 16
- Nurse-Patient Ratios: 1:2-3 for adults, 1:2-4 for pediatrics
- Common Diagnoses/Patient Types: Adults and pediatrics with conditions such as sepsis, post-stent care, pacemaker placements, strokes, vascular issues, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress.
- Drip Titration: Yes, RNs are required to titrate drips.
- Common Drips: Includes cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation.
- Patient Care Techs: Health Support Tech available Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 16:30.
- Respiratory Equipment: RNs manage nasal cannulas to vents; troubleshooting required for other equipment (e.g., CPAP, BiPAP, high flow).
- Telemetry/Monitoring: RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips. Tele monitors are used in the unit.
- Shifts & Scheduling: Shifts are from 06:30-18:30 and 18:30-06:30. Core staff can self-schedule, but block scheduling is not guaranteed for travelers.
- Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend.
- Holiday Requirements: Rotating based on weekend staffing group.
- Floating: Typically to PCU, possibly to Med-Surg.
- Orientation: 3 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation.
Radius Rule: 50 miles; candidates must not be full-time, part-time, or PRN at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and Dignity.
