Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
High School Diploma/GED (foreign equivalent or higher). Four (4) years of full-time clerical experience, with a preference for experience in payroll or a closely related field. Familiarity with payroll systems and an understanding of payroll processes, appointments, and timekeeping. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Workspace.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Advanced proficiency in enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems such as Oracle and PeopleSoft. Experience with document management systems like OnBase.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Payroll Specialist will play a crucial role in managing and executing payroll functions to support a diverse workforce, including professionals, classified staff, and both graduate and undergraduate employees. This position requires a strong commitment to customer service, meticulous attention to detail, and a capability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team setting.
- Payroll Processing: Analyze, evaluate, and process new hires, changes, terminations, and fellowship forms bi-weekly. Manage adjustments such as rate changes, FTE changes, promotions, and department transfers. Ensure all payroll documentation is accurate and submitted in a timely manner.
- Onboarding Support: Assist with the onboarding process by reviewing and approving offer letters and payroll data sheets. Ensure compliance with employment verification processes, including I-9 and E-Verify. Facilitate smooth integration of new hires into payroll systems.
- Data Management and Compliance: Manage Integration and Exception Reports. Investigate and correct errors within various HR systems to ensure accuracy and compliance. Handle tax forms and ensure deductions are correctly calculated and comply with federal and state guidelines.
- Customer Service and Support: Act as a point of contact for payroll-related inquiries from employees, departments, and HR partners. Assist in guiding new employees through the HR self-service portals.
- Continuous Improvement: Engage in continuous review and optimization of payroll processes. Monitor and liaise with Grants Management to ensure compliance with sponsored awards.
- Additional Responsibilities: Collaborate with the Time/Attendance and Leaves team to manage leaves such as PFL, FMLA and ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
- Other Duties: Perform additional tasks or projects as assigned, aimed at supporting the HR Operations team and enhancing organizational efficiency.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
