What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accession Area Technician position at University Hospital?
The primary purpose of the Accession Area Technician position is to facilitate the flow of work through the Accession Area. Responsible for entering orders and scanning specimens for laboratory tests into laboratory information system (LIS) via a computer terminal. Responsible for retrieving laboratory data from the LIS in order to respond to inquiries from the clinical units concerning test results. Responsible for maintaining working knowledge of the Laboratory and the Hospital Information Systems. Performs routine tasks required for maintaining computer and office equipment within the laboratory. Develops good rapport between the house staff, nursing staff, and patients and the Clinical Laboratory. Assists in processing samples for Reference Laboratories.
Responsibilities
High School diploma or equivalent.
Two (2) years of general experience in data processing field.
One (1) year of experience in a health care environment is preferred.
Position requires working Every Other Weekend / Occasional Holidays.
Knowledge of laboratory terminology an asset.
Willingness to accept rotating shifts and non-prime shifts.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position.
