- Provide peer support, encouragement, and education to mothers of extremely preterm infants regarding breast milk expression.
- Assist in identifying and addressing barriers that may impact a mother’s ability to express milk.
- Share resources and best practices related to breastfeeding management and advocacy.
- Work closely with the Neonatology team to ensure mothers receive the appropriate support and education.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when interacting with patients and families.
- Document interactions and provide updates to the supervising professor and medical team as needed.
- Experience in breastfeeding advocacy, lactation support, or a related field is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to provide compassionate and patient-centered support.
- Personal experience with breastfeeding or supporting others in lactation management is preferred.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with medical professionals and families.
- Must be available to work part-time as assigned through UAB Temporary Services.
- Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) or International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification is a plus.
- Experience working in a hospital, neonatal, or maternal health setting.
- Knowledge of challenges specific to breastfeeding mothers of preterm infants.
- Experience in breastfeeding advocacy, lactation support, or a related field is highly desirable.
