The Department of Student Housing and Residence Life supports over 3,200 students across six residence halls and hosts more than 2,500 summer guests. The Housing Facilities Coordinator plays a key role in maintaining the cleanliness, functionality, and overall appearance of on-campus housing facilities. This position is responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating, and supervising a team of 8-12 facility student assistants.
Key responsibilities include conducting quality assurance inspections for daily and special cleaning requests, overseeing event spaces in and around residence halls, and managing various facility operations. The coordinator ensures compliance with cleaning standards by overseeing contracted cleaning services and supervises student assistants responsible for event setup and teardown, trash and recycling collection, auxiliary grounds maintenance, and custodial inventory management. Additionally, the role includes maintaining custodial assets such as soap, sanitizer, and towel dispensers, as well as WEPA print stations.
Reporting to the Director of Student Housing and Dining Facilities, this position helps oversee the daily operations of six residence halls, encompassing approximately 1,000,000 square feet of space.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Interview, hire, and train professional and student staff personnel. Evaluate and directly supervise a team of facility student assistants.
- Inspect daily cleaning, repairs, and renovations for quality adherence to specifications and thoroughness.
- Oversee residential event spaces (schedule event setup and tear down and maintain departmental assets such as tables, chairs, tech, etc.).
- Coordinate with vendors, present recommendations for repairs, replacements, and facility improvements, schedule personnel, and respond to facilities concerns/complaints.
- Assist in the facilitation of departmental events (such as the SHRL tailgates for athletic events, among others) that may occur outside of typical business hours as determined by the Director of Student Housing and Dining Facilities.
- Coordinate with Student Housing and Dining Facilities leadership, campus maintenance, contractors, and private vendors on special projects, renovations, and capital improvement projects.
- Assist in the development and implementation of policy & procedures to ensure proper safety, security, and upkeep of all facilities within the UAB Housing community.
- Operate department vehicles and be responsible for the safe operation of vehicles and reporting any observed maintenance needs (must have a valid driver’s license, complete training courses, and possess an acceptable driving record prior to operating department vehicles).
- Operate equipment with small engines/motors such as power washers, carpet cleaners, and other power tools.
- Participate in training sessions and staff meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment And Physical Requirements
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors with exposure to various weather conditions. Position involves frequent bending, standing, kneeling, climbing ladders, reaching below and above shoulders, and lifting of heavy objects and equipment while performing job duties. Wrist, hand, and finger dexterity are required to operate various equipment and materials.
- Additional hours beyond 40 per week and a blackout on vacation days may be required during peak business times, including Move-in and Move-out weeks (typically mid- to late-August and late-April to early-May).
- Experience in facilities management in a residence hall setting is preferred.
- Experience with supervision, selection, training, and development of student staff teams
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
