Job Description
The UAB Division of Pediatric Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine is actively recruiting for faculty positions at all rank and academic track levels. Candidates focusing on careers as physician-scientists or clinician-educators will be equally considered. A track record of quality investigative work and program development is preferred. The selected candidate will be expected to provide ambulatory care, interpretation of sleep studies, such as polysomnography, mean sleep latency testing, actigraphy, and inpatient consultations for sleep disorders, including obstructive sleep apnea and narcolepsy parasomnias, movement disorders, insomnia, and safe sleep. In addition, candidates will have the opportunity to be involved with robust multi-specialty outpatient clinics, such as weight management, cleft palate clinic, and sleep clinic. Strong clinical demand and an expanding division will offer the new faculty member an exciting array of opportunities to participate in its growth and development.
The Sleep Disorder Center at Children’s of Alabama is a comprehensive facility dedicated to sleep issues in pediatrics with 12 beds designed for outpatient sleep studies and 2 portable carts for inpatient sleep evaluations. The Sleep Disorder Center is staffed with 16 nocturnal sleep technologists, a respiratory therapist, a dedicated scheduler, three daytime technologists, and a sleep center manager. In addition, the sleep clinic has dedicated nursing team members, a social worker, and nutrition coverage.
The division offers a full array of clinical services and programs in both inpatient and outpatient settings. All aspects of pediatric pulmonary and sleep medicine are represented, including comprehensive programs in asthma, aerodigestive disorders, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, home ventilation/technology-dependent, sickle cell-related pulmonary complications, and general pulmonary clinics.
There are also nationally accredited centers for cystic fibrosis (CFF), neuromuscular diseases (by both MDA and Cure SMA), primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD Foundation), and sleep (AASM).Research is active with a world-class CF program housing a CF Basic Research Center, a CF Therapeutics Development Center, and a TDN National Resource Center.
The division is also a member of the American Lung Association Airways Clinical Research Center Network. Education and training are exemplified by two active and long-standing fellowship programs in both Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine and by the Pediatric Pulmonary Center (PPC), a Title V training program funded by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) of the Health Resources and Services Administration. Successful candidates must be a licensed MD, DO, PhD or MD/PhD, board-certified in pediatrics, and board-certified/eligible in Sleep Medicine. Physicians and other clinical faculty candidates who will be employed by the University of Alabama Health Services Foundation (UAHSF) or other UAB Medicine entities must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check .Rank, tenure and salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and will consist of a guaranteed salary and a generous incentive plan linked to productivity.
