Description

Position Summary:

Reports to the Associate Dean for Physician Scientist Development (PSDO) with dotted line reporting to the Director of the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP). Oversees daily operations, space management, service centers, and staff supervision. Collaborates with institutional partners to enhance recruitment efforts of students. Manages the office's budget, including grants and institutional funds, ensuring financial sustainability and compliance. Leads the onboarding and integration of Graduate Trainees and Research Assistants, facilitating a smooth transition into their roles.

Directs operations of a programmatic function. Operates with a high degree of independence. Responsible for program development, content and administration. Establishes program objectives, manages programmatic fiscal activities, supervises staff engaged in carrying out program activities and may require grant writing and/or other ability to secure program funding. Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Advises students, faculty, and administrators on Physician Scientist Development Office and Medical Science Training Program policies, ensuring compliance with institutional regulations. Serves as liaison for curriculum modifications, course approvals, and program adjustments.
  • Collects, analyzes, and maintains program data for decision-making, including student progress, application statistics, and alumni outcomes.
  • Provides reports and analyses on cohort sizes, graduation rates, and key performance metrics to aid strategic planning.
  • Monitors recruitment outcomes and prepares reports to assess program effectiveness.
  • Organizes recruitment events, including campus tours, open houses, and virtual information sessions.
  • Develops national, regional, and local recruitment initiatives, leveraging data analytics to optimize efforts.
  • Builds partnerships with faculty, administrators, and community organizations to support recruitment goals.
  • Prepares financial reports, forecasts operational expenses, and ensures alignment with the goals of the MSTP and PSDO.
  • Oversees student compensation, manages grant funding (e.g., NIH F, T, and R mechanism grants, etc.), and supports pre/post-award grant processes.
  • Develops promotional materials that highlight program success and align with institutional messaging.
  • Ensures adherence to university policies, financial regulations, and grant requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Salary Range: $60,835 - $98,855


Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. None required.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Grant preparation and submission experience
  • Financial management experience
  • Exceptional computer (Microsoft Office), written, and communication skills
  • Ability to interact with a variety of UAB students, staff, faculty, and senior-level administrators
  • Ability to multi-task in order to meet the requirements of a fast-paced and changing work environment Must have excellent problem-solving, conflict-resolution, and customer service skills
  • Be able to work autonomously as needed, or as part of a team.
