The University of Alabama at Birmingham Med-Hematology and Oncology Department seeks a Research Associate. The Research Associate will independently conduct routine research within cancer genomics and immunology, supporting ongoing research efforts under the guidance of senior researchers. This role prioritizes meticulous management and organization of laboratory data, thorough documentation of research procedures, and proactive contributions to advancing research objectives. As a Researcher Associate, this intermediate-level position will require you to independently conduct more complex studies and analyses, contributing to the advancement of research projects. With greater autonomy, you will design experiments, interpret data, and collaborate with senior researchers to develop and refine research protocols. Your role may also include mentoring junior staff and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research participant contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Execute established research protocols accurately and efficiently.
- Conduct analyses and interpret experimental data clearly.
- Maintain comprehensive, precise research records.
- Organize and manage research data files consistent with laboratory standards, facilitating regular data backup and archival processes.
- Summarize research findings to support manuscript development.
- Assist in the preparation of materials for grants, presentations, and scientific publications.
- Actively participate in journal clubs, laboratory meetings, and collaborative discussions.
- Maintain detailed daily research notes and produce periodic progress updates.
- Routinely conduct quality assessments of research data.
- Identify documents and report data anomalies or inconsistencies to senior team members.
- Maintain thorough records of quality control procedures and generate quality assurance reports utilizing established templates and formats.
- Engage in training sessions to expand knowledge of emerging research techniques and attend seminars and workshops to enhance professional expertise.
- Proactively document and disseminate newly acquired methodologies and knowledge with team members.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Hourly salary range: $19.80 - $32.15
Bachelor's degree in a related field OR Associate's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. None required.
