What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Services Professional (Extended Temporary Employment) position at University of Arizona?
This position is based at the UA Campus Main Library located in Tucson, AZ and is eligible for flexible scheduling for individuals who reside in Arizona.
You will work collaboratively with members of the SLE Department and across the organization to develop and promote an inclusive approach to a group and one-on-one instruction (reference/research consultation) service model.
You will also work collaboratively with members of the SLE Department to develop and promote a growing instruction program that is committed to upholding the Libraries’ commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to further the Libraries’ commitment to student success. This work may include leading clinics, developing and updating instructional materials, and providing support programming and other opportunities to support student engagement and success.
This is an Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
- Selectively plan and provide in-person, virtual, and/or hybrid course-integrated library instruction sessions in assigned liaison areas aligned with ACRL guidelines, standards, and frameworks.
- Provide group and one-on-one consultations via email and through scheduled meetings (in-person, virtual, and/or hybrid).
- Prepare, develop, and update instructional materials such as tutorials, research guides, and finding aids, in collaboration with the liaison librarians.
- Participate in the library’s marketing and outreach efforts to assigned areas.
- At the direction of the unit lead, assist with campus program partners (Think Tank, Writing Center, etc.) as assigned, including helping to train advisors, new student orientation assistants, and represent the libraries’ at selected campus orientations, info fairs and events.
- The UA Libraries support the UA’s diversity and inclusiveness strategic initiatives designed to create an inclusive environment for all faculty, staff, and students. The candidate is expected to support diversity and inclusiveness efforts in the department and college.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Familiarity with databases and other information resources used in an academic library to support instruction, research, and engagement activities.
- Understanding of the research and references process as well as a broad understanding of various types of reference sources (e.g., library catalog, indexes, web-scale discovery services, search engines, virtual and print resources) and their appropriate uses, including understanding the differences between primary and secondary resources.
- Evidence of a high degree of computer/digital fluency (hardware and software). This includes proficiency in the use of Microsoft Outlook and Office Suite (current version) as well as familiarity with library technology.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced/multi-tasking environment prioritizing tasks and responding positively to unanticipated changes while exhibiting follow through and flexibility.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including evidence of excellent initiative, organizational and time management skills; evidence of the use of good judgment and solid analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Skill in facilitating meetings and delivering presentations.

- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program or an advanced degree in a related discipline.
- 3 years of relevant work experience.
- At least one year of experience providing information services, including database searching, finding quality information on the Internet.
- Experience providing public and reference services (in-person and virtual), utilizing reference interview skills to determine user need, in an academic, research, or large public library.
- Experience searching integrated Library Services and Discovery Platforms including record interpretation, preferably Ex Libris Alma and Primo.
- Experience working with a Course Management System (CMS), preferably Desire2Learn as well as screen casting and other web-based presentation software.
- Evidence of a high degree of computer/digital fluency (hardware and software) related to the use of instructional/training software, and experience working collaboratively on the design, development, delivery, assessment, and continuous improvement of training modules.
- Experience working in an academic library, specifically in reference, access, or user services.
