Summary of Job Duties:
The Lab Support Technician II provides intermediate-level technical support to laboratory operations by performing routine and moderately complex tasks related to equipment maintenance, sample preparation, inventory management, and compliance with safety and quality standards.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent and two (2) years of experience as a Lab Tech or Assistant in a Clinical Laboratory or 60 hours of completed higher education in a health sciences programs
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to follow oral instruction, read and write.
- Computer/basic keyboard skills.
- Telephone etiquette skills.
- Must have excellent customer service skills.
Additional Information:
Responsibilities:
- Receives specimens from all sources and verifies that each specimen has proper collection and labeling
- Verifies that each test is received in the correct tube type.
- Sorts all specimens and place them in the proper racks to be received.
- Load racks on the appropriate automation line to be received in and tested.
- Scan specimens into the EPIC system and re-label the specimens as needed.
- Enter order into EPIC through requisition entry for all outside institutions.
- Process add-on test.
- Answers phone calls concerning results, faxing reports, specimen collection and ordering test.
- Processes timed urine specimens.
- Reconciles packing list.
- Process Reference, VA and ACH specimens as needed.
- Process mail-in specimens.
- Scan requisitions received with labs from institutional accounts into EPIC.
- Schedule could change due to staffing issues with a two weeks notice.
- Assure that all tasks are completed for shift.
- Ensure all policies and procedures are followed.
- Address all patient/specimen problems as needed.
- Consult with the Laboratory Supervisor or Pathologist for guidance when handling problem situations.
- Fill out all Safety Intelligence reports and deliver to the Core Lab Manager.
- Communicate all pertinent information to the oncoming senior tech and Supervisor.
- Assist with training new LSTs including signing off on competencies.
- This position is required to work a fluid schedule when needed.
- Performs other duties as needed.
