Summary of Job Duties:The Export Compliance Officer will assist faculty, staff, and students to be aware of, understand, and comply with Federal Export Regulations, including but not limited to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations and the Export Administration Regulations and federal research security guidelines. The incumbent will oversee and provide basic training in export compliance,
advise and coordinate activities with faculty, staff, and business units in matters of export control (acquisition of equipment, development and monitoring of technology control plans), assist OSP and UITS in the creation of environments, when needed, that permit controlled projects and activities, and serve as subject matter expert to those traveling internationally or engaging in (international) collaborations.

The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining all records as required by the applicable federal regulations. This position reports to the Director of Research Compliance, a unit of the Division of Research and Innovation.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution of higher education

  • Minimum two years of experience with export control facets of contracting or execution of contracts subject to ITAR or similar regulatory language.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident as defined by 8 USC 1101(a)(20), or a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) in accordance with *734.13 of the Export Administration Regulations and *120.17 of the International Traffic in Arms

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience implementing policies and procedures pertaining to export control regulations (International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR); Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC))

  • Demonstrated experience with databases and electronic systems required to implement regulations including, but not limited to restricted party screening tools

  • Five years of experience managing an export compliance program in a university, research organization, or industry

  • Advanced degree (MS, Ph.D. or equivalent) in a scientific or engineering discipline, or a Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited institution of higher education

  • Accreditation or certification in export control (e.g., ECTI)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Skilled in attention to detail

  • Ability to possess a high degree of professionalism and discretion with sensitive information

  • Ability to develop and deliver targeted training; policies; and procedures

  • Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders

  • Ability to assess compliance risks in complex environments
