Position Overview
The Department of Music and Theatre at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Music, Percussion. The position reports to the Department Head of Music and Theatre.
Qualifications
Required Education and / or Work Experience : Master’s in Music with significant professional experience. Demonstrate expertise in various areas, including orchestral percussion, contemporary percussion, and drum set.
Preferred Education and / or Work Experience : Doctorate in Music. Demonstrated excellence in collegiate teaching and recruitment. Demonstrated professional profile as a performer and pedagogue. In addition to the various areas of expertise already listed, the successful candidate should demonstrate expertise in world music and understand current trends in music industry and technology.
Summary of Job Duties
- Instruct undergraduate applied percussion lessons.
- Direct the Percussion Ensemble.
- Instruct music education majors in Percussion Methods classes.
- Teach other classes contingent upon the candidate’s expertise, interest, and needs of the department.
- Actively recruit percussion students to the department.
- Be active in scholarly and / or creative activities.
- Be active in service to the university, community, and profession.
- Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork.
- Requires consistent on-time attendance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Salary Information
Minimum salary of $50,000 per year. Final salary commensurate with education and experience.
