Reporting to the Compliance Supervisor, this position enforces UC Davis Traffic and Parking Code/California Vehicle Code requirements, issues parking citations and provides motorist assistance services on campus. Directs traffic, places cones, barricades and signs to support and create safe traffic flow; provides information to the public and responds to questions/complaints regarding events, parking, and traffic conditions.

Conducts utilization surveys, identifies and reports facility deficiencies and transports customers as directed to fulfill program and performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience working with the public in a customer service environment.

  • Experience with independently resolving conflicts and diffusing situations with angry customers including the ability to listen attentively and to refer problems appropriately.

  • Reading and writing skills to interpret legislation, policy and procedures and apply information to work product.

  • Communication skills to convey clear and concise information to the public and staff and to respond to questions. Ability to accept and follow written and oral instructions.

  • Ability to demonstrate patience, tact, courtesy, and empathy with a diverse staff of patients, staff, faculty, and the public.

  • Technical skills to use a smart phone, Bluetooth technology/equipment & personal computer to generate reports.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of California Vehicle Code 21113a and UCD Traffic and Parking code. Enforcement experience, including inspecting vehicles for compliance with established parking regulations and issuing citations.

  • Flexibility to adapt to new and changing procedures while maintaining productivity and accomplishing workload as priorities change.

  • Mechanical skills to perform various motorist assistance services (i.e., vehicle lockouts, tire inflation, battery jumps, gasoline retrieval, etc.). Knowledge of University policies and procedures, UC Davis Traffic & Parking Code and/or California Vehicle Code (CVC).

  • Familiarity with campus parking facility locations. Experience directing traffic and conducting utilization surveys.

  • Ability to perform minor repairs on mechanical equipment such as meters and permit dispensers, and ability to operate a variety of power and hand tools.

  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations for computing fees and full cashiering responsibilities. Ability to process vehicles out of attended lots with speed and accuracy.

  • Troubleshooting skills to repair or communicate with individuals assigned to service parking control equipment.

Department Overview

As a leader in our industry, UC Davis Transportation Services' mission is to build, maintain, and operate transportation systems on the UC Davis campus, and facilitate transportation within those systems using the most fiscally and ecologically sustainable methods practicable.
Transportation Services facilitates the access and mobility needs of the campus community through the coordination of efforts among Transportation Services' units and with other campus departments and non-university entities and ensures that services are provided in a professional, efficient, and service-oriented manner. Additionally, the department plays an integral role in operating and maintaining the agricultural equipment used on campus.

The Enforcement unit comprises 8 full time staff members and various student employees, who a responsible for monitoring and enforcing parking regulations for approximately 18,000 spaces on the UC Davis campus.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Employee is personally responsible for following and adhering to Departmental Injury Illness Plan and University safety procedures and guidelines.
