Under supervision of the Lab Manager, this position is responsible for accurate and precise testing of agricultural samples, such as soil, feed, water and plants in a high production work environment. Perform a variety of tasks such as extractions, digestions, analysis on instruments, generating and reporting of data. Also assist in other general lab tasks and coordinating lab's safety program.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a chemistry or a related science, or equivalent experience/training.

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience multi tasking in a high production testing laboratory handling soil, feed, plant and water samples preferred.

  • Experience handling soil, feed, plant and water samples.

  • Knowledge of spreadsheet software (Excel), data acquisition software and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with methods for the accurate and safe digestion of samples using hot concentrated nitric, perchloric, sulfuric and hydrofluoric acids.

  • Knowledge of safe handling of hot concentrated acids.

  • Knowledge of Good Lab Practices and application of quality assurance in a high production testing environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a wide variety of individuals, to include co-workers, clients and individuals from other University units.

Department Overview

The UC Davis Analytical Laboratory is a core support facility of the UC Davis College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. The laboratory performs analyses on selected constituents of soil, feed, plant, water and wastewater in support of agricultural and environmental research.

The position is important to the lab in order to provide quality and accurate data to clients in a timely manner.

Work Environment
