The Vice President Finance for Network Medical Centers at UCI Health provides leadership in the financial management of UCI Health's hospital facilities. This executive role is pivotal in integrating these facilities into the broader financial framework of UCI Health, ensuring seamless financial operations and alignment with the organization's strategic goals. The VP of Finance will collaborate extensively with the Controller/VP of Financial Accounting & Reporting and other finance leaders to achieve effective financial integration and operational excellence.


Your Role on the Team

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides leadership and oversight for the operational financial aspects of the medical centers focusing on creating operational efficiencies throughout the health system. Implements effective financial management practices across the system, ensuring adherence to UCI Health’s financial standards. Works closely with operational leaders in the integration of clinical, administrative, and financial processes. 20%
  • Oversees budgeting and forecasting for system medical centers, ensuring seamless integration into the overall financial plan. Oversees and conducts strategic financial analyses to identify synergies, efficiencies, and opportunities for cost savings across the health system and throughout the integration process. Provides comprehensive financial reports, highlighting integration progress and financial performance to executive leadership. 20%
  • Oversees and leads financial integration processes, ensuring the consistent alignment with UCI Health’s financial systems, policies, and procedures. Develops and executes strategies for financial consolidation, ensuring consistency in financial reporting and management across the system. Coordinates with Finance Leaders to harmonize accounting practices and financial controls. 20%
  • Identifies, mentors, and grows high potential employees for future leadership roles. Promotes and implements professional development of team members at all levels. Demonstrates behaviors which support excellence in customer service, patient safety, and professionalism. Effectively allocates and evaluates work, staffing levels, and provides leadership and follow through to ensure that services are delivered in a timely, efficient manner. Accepts responsibility for decisions and effective communication. Demonstrates leadership, fostering an environment of collaboration & open communication. 20%
  • Complies with all policies/procedures, applicable laws, regulatory agency requirements, codes of practice and organization work standards; assumes responsibility for decisions made; maintains records in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements; creates a safe work environment; allocates and prioritizes work monitoring performance standards for continuous performance improvement; serves as an advocate for patients and their family members in ensuring that various needs are met throughout their entire continuum of care; leads process improvement efforts to ensure enhanced operating efficiency/performance for assigned areas. 20%

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong planning, financial and analytical skills to provide effective leadership for assigned areas
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a leadership role (Director or higher) in a healthcare setting
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience of progressive management responsibility
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Excellent negotiation skills and proven ability to influence others internal and external to the organization
  • Evidence of sound critical thinking skills and the ability to think creatively and strategically
  • Demonstrated ability to work across multidisciplinary teams
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Ability to successfully represent the UC Irvine Enterprise to the external community
  • Ability to successfully cross departmental lines of management to organize, guide and direct the development, delivery and marketing of assigned programs and services
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
  • Ability to develop and implement programs and improve organizational


Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or Masters in Healthcare Management or related field
  • Leadership experience in an academic medical center environment
  • Knowledge of University and Medical Center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
