Position description
The Master of Quantitative Economics (MQE) Program at UCLA invites highly qualified applicants to the Data Scientist & Assistant Director of MQE Quant Lab position effective immediately.
The Assistant Director contributes to the MQE Quant Lab by conducting data analysis and building data pipelines. In addition, this role designs and delivers applied workshops and technical training activities and supervises applied student projects.
Qualified candidates must possess a master's degree in a quantitative field including computer science, engineering, data science, business analytics, mathematics, statistics, economics, finance, or related fields. Must be proficient in Python, SQL, and machine learning. Experience with AWS, cloud computing and end to end model deployment is preferred. Ability to design and deliver effective trainings and workshops. Strong interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills to convey complex concepts to applied practitioners. Self-starter with a team-player attitude. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. An interest or experience in data engineering, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, time series forecasting, and quantitative finance is a plus. Experience in finance or economics is not required. This is a full-time, one-year contract position (with possibility to extend).

Qualified candidates must possess a master's degree in a quantitative field. Ability to conduct financial research and financial analysis using complex data sets. Must be proficient in Python, SQL, Excel, Tableau, and other analytics tools. Ability to develop high-impact educational programming as well as translate applied learnings into creative real-world practices through collaborative partnerships. Ability to design and deliver effective trainings and workshops. Demonstrated ability to provide coaching and training to masters-level students. Strong interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills to convey complex concepts to applied practice. Self-starter with a team-player attitude. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
