Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Preadmission Unit Supervisor, the Principal Admitting Worker is primarily assigned to the Pre-Admit Unit but may rotate or be assigned to any area or site as outlined in the Admitting Department Expectations. The Principal Admitting Worker is responsible for financial clearance of scheduled admissions and surgical procedures, identifying any potential authorization issues that place the patient and / or organization at financial risk. Duties include screening surgical case entries / orders, verifying insurance eligibility and benefits, and ensuring authorizations are secured. The Principal Admitting Worker is required to have general knowledge of health insurance plans with an understanding of the authorization process. The Principal Admitting Worker must be able to effectively communicate with physicians / clinic staff, the applicable Medical Center ancillary department, and / or review organization(s) as required, maintaining a high degree of professionalism.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. This position is represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Two (2) years experience at the Admitting Worker or comparable level.
- Proficiency in the following : health insurance eligibility, authorization requirements and reimbursement financial policies.
- Knowledge of government program regulations : Medi-Cal, Medicare, MIA, C.C.S., and other third-party payors.
- Ability to problem solve; ability to analyze data and recommend changes.
- Must have strong customer service skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a culturally diverse staff and patient / family population.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Admissions, Discharge, and Transfer work experience.
- Knowledge of office machines; typing 30 wpm. and basic PC skills.
- Basic Medical Terminology knowledge.
- Excellent Oral / Written Communication.
