Position Summary
- This position will be a member of the Leadership Team which is the decision-making body for the department.
- This position is critical to Campus Recreation and Wellness (CR&W) for personnel management, training, planning, budget coordination, decision making, program development, evaluation, assessment, and risk management.
- The Sr. Associate Director provides strategic leadership for planning, policies, staffing, operations, services, safety, and maintenance of a large and complex operation.
- The Sr. Associate Director is the direct supervisor for two full-time professional staff members, and indirect supervisor of student employees who manage the aquatics and fitness.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Plans, organizes, and directs a comprehensive recreation and wellness program by performing the following duties personally and through subordinate supervisors.
- Directs personnel involved in fitness, risk management, and the aquatics departments of the CR&W.
- The Sr. Associate Director of CR&W strives to create an environment that values inclusivity, engages in program assessment, and promotes student development and participation.
- Develops in-house training programs for student development and safety
- Coordinate the development and implementation of risk management policies and procedures for the Department of CR&W.
- Maintain statistical information for program participants and assist in the development of regular assessments of the Department of CR&W.
- Actively participate in CR&W advisory groups and Student Affairs committees.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Acts on behalf of the Director of Campus Recreation and Wellness in his / her absence.
Job Duties and Responsibilities SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Program Management (10%) a. Provide leadership and oversight for comprehensive programs and events related to accomplishing program goals and initiatives, as well as the development and enforcement of policies and procedures and assist with compliance of other departmental and UCA policies and procedures.b. Develop strategies and vision for future growth across program areas.c. Develop, implement and monitor short and long-range plans for program areas of Campus Recreation, consistent with the mission of UCA and goals of the Division of Student Affairs. 2. Personnel Management (15%) a. Provide engaged leadership and supervision of Campus Recreation and Wellness program professional staff including the Assistant Director for Aquatics and Risk Management; and Fitness and Personal Training.b. Assist the Director in the recruitment, selection, training, supervision and evaluation of full-time professional staff. 3. Student Development (20%) a. The Sr. Associate Director along with staff will employ the latest student and professional staff development techniques, as well as progressive programs, technologies and customer-centered services, to best meet the needs of the University Community of UCA.b. Provides oversight of all planning and implementation of standards and expectations for student training and development. 4. Facility (5%) a. Long-range strategic planning, facility planning, budget development, equipment purchases, risk management, preparedness and response, implementation of the departmental business continuity plan and maintenance of accurate records.b. Coordinates the development, implementation and review of policies and procedures for facilities and operations. 5. Risk Management (10%) a. Collaborate with staff to make decisions regarding policies, liability and risk management issues, revenue generation opportunities, emergency action plans, schedules, activities and staffing for all program areas.b. Maintains and provides follow up on all department documented incident and accident reports related to injuries, facility operations, policies, security and conduct issues.c. Serves as the primary safety and risk manager for the department and assesses the potential safety risks throughout all areas.d. Oversee the professional that develops the department’s risk management effort. 6. Financial Management (5%) a. Report and consult with the Director on budget issues as needed.b. Develops, administers, and analyzes multiple budgets and assist with development of the departmental budget and business plans including partnerships, sponsorships, grants and revenue generation. 7. Leadership (10%) a. Collaborates with campus partners within the Division of Student Services and academic units to develop and implement programs and events that contribute to student success.b. Will be accountable for contributing to a positive, friendly work environment that encourages, enhances and demonstrates collaboration, teamwork and professionalism among staff, students and patrons on a daily basis.c. Along with the Director and Associate Directors, develop strategic direction for the department.d. Consult and advise the Director regarding issues, needs, concerns for Campus Recreation and Wellness programs and services as they relate to students, faculty, staff, alumni, retirees and other affiliate constituent groups utilizing the facilities and services.e. Establishes vision statement / plan in conjunction with staff in all areas of oversight and supports Director with departmental goals and objectives.f. Supervises, trains, develops and provides ongoing and timely feedback to direct reports.g. Manages professional staff by conducting regular meetings related to program and its status; discussing budgets, upcoming events, and schedules on a regular basis; develops and implements new programs as well as maintaining current programs.h. Resolves difficult Campus Recreation participant complaints, policy violations and behavior matters in partnership with colleagues.i. Provides primary supervision, including hiring, training, discipline, mentorship and evaluation for the following staff : Assistant Director of Aquatics and Risk Management, Assistant Director of Fitness and Personal Trainers and provides indirect supervision for student employees.j. Prepares annual revenue and expense budget projections for areas of responsibility.k. Provides leadership and direction for the planning, development, promotion, delivery, and evaluation of a comprehensive recreation and wellness program including group fitness classes and programs, nutritional information and workshops, personal training and specialized fitness & wellness programs. Oversees, leads, and directs personnel engaged in fitness, wellness, aquatics and risk management. 8. Technology (5%) a. Oversee the administrative responsibility of departmental software solutions (Fusion and Sub It Up) which includes assigning user and member access, training personnel and working in conjunction with other University Departments. 9. Assessment (15%) a. Direct departmental assessment efforts to include learning outcomes, the evaluation and assessment of programs, services and facilities and benchmark studies.b. Provide trainings, guidance and support to departmental staff related to research, assessment, data analysis and planning.c. Direct staff in planning, implementing, assessing and evaluating new and current programs operations within Campus Recreation.d. Develop and support research and assessment efforts regarding student learning outcomes and student involvement / satisfaction for Campus Recreation programs and services and other user groups, targeting the importance of campus recreation services to student recruitment and retention efforts.e. Provides leadership to assessment efforts related to facility usage, operations, services, risk and maintenance. 10. Other Duties as Assigned (5%) a. Responsible for being an active and engaging participant in staff meetings and related department, divisional and university related activities, as well as, expected to serve on department and campus committees as assigned.b. Perform duties / special projects as assigned by Director of Campus Recreation or other senior leadership staff related to department, division or university initiatives.c. Assist with preparing regular written communication such as monthly and annual reports, financial and participation reports, and equipment inventory reports as needed.
d. The Sr. Assistant Director of Campus Recreation and Wellness will be accountable for contributing to a positive, friendly work environment that encourages, enhances and demonstrates collaboration, teamwork and professionalism among staff, students and patrons on a daily basis.
