Position Overview:
This role is a full-time, non-tenure track, continuing instructor position for the School of Engineering within the College of Mathematics and Science at the University of Central Oklahoma. The instructor will provide a quality learning experience for students. Performs instruction-related duties and responsibilities on time and per university and CMS mission, policies, and procedures. The candidate will work to strengthen the School of Engineering First-Year Engineering Program, designed to promote student success and support the transition of students into the school’s engineering programs. They advise and mentor students, evaluate student performance and maintain department and student records per university policies. The instructor will adhere to the university educational philosophy, work collaboratively with colleagues and professional peers, and participate in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. The candidate will serve on school, college, and university committees as requested; prepare departmental reports as required; engages in teaching, service, scholarly, or creative activities as defined by the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook.
School Specific Essential Job Functions:
Specific instructor duties include teaching day/evening classes, graduate/undergraduate courses, and face-to-face/online courses appropriate to their engineering background. Responsibilities include teaching the Introduction to Engineering and Introduction to Robotics for Engineers courses, supporting the School’s Engineering Student Mentor program, supporting recruitment activities, supporting and organizing department outreach activities, and supporting assessment activities related to the departments ABET-accredited programs. The successful candidate will have opportunities to participate in and promote collaborative undergraduate research and creative scholarly activities with other department faculty in their engineering field or the field of engineering education. Additional responsibilities will include serving on school, college, and university committees; and service activities appropriate to rank and appointment. Reports to the Director of the School and the Dean of the College.
College/Department Overview:
The College of Mathematics and Science currently has 128 full-time and over 70 part-time faculty in 5 academic departments and the Schools of Engineering and Nursing. The College serves more than 3,300 undergraduate students in 30 majors and provides graduate programs in Biology, Computer Science, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, Applied Mathematical Science, Engineering, Computational Science, and Nursing. Accreditation/Certification is held by ABET, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), the American Board of Funeral Service Education, and the American Chemical Society. Required Qualifications:
- An earned master's degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in an engineering field or related discipline (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval).
Preferred Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in an engineering field or related discipline is preferred.
- The candidate with teaching experience in lower-division and upper-division engineering courses and experience directing elements of a first-year engineering program will be given preference.
- Preference will also be given to candidates who can support the general engineering and physics service courses.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- An ability to work cooperatively in a multidisciplinary department with ABET accredited Engineering programs.
- Ability to teach broad range of undergraduate and graduate engineering classroom and laboratory courses.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
