The University of Chicago Press Distribution Center (CDC) is a state-of-the-art distribution and fulfillment operation, providing a full range of services to the University of Chicago Press and scholarly publishers worldwide. Located in the Historic Pullman District near 110th Langley, the CDC is conveniently located near the Metra and the Bishop Ford Freeway. The facility is two hundred seventy-three thousand square feet, housing nearly twelve million books in inventory, and more than nineteen thousand units shipped daily. Job Summary
The Data Control Clerk II will be responsible for entering customer returns and investigating customer service complaints on the computer system.
Responsibilities
- Entering customer returns as received in the warehouse daily.
- Investigating customer service complaints and following detailed procedures to correct the problems.
- Interface with various departments as required to effectively complete assigned tasks.
- Various other tasks as required.
- Manage interpersonal relationships and interact/communicate with clarity, tact and courtesy with staff, faculty, and clients.
- Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
- Identify priorities.
- Recognize and resolve or refer problems.
- Work effectively with supervision and as part of a team.
- Use or learn a range of position-related software applications.
- Strong typing skills. and experience on a 10 key adding machine required.
- Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to follow detailed instructions required.
- Enter data both quickly and accurately on an on-line database system required.
- Able to learn quickly and retain what has been learned is of paramount importance due to the variety of tasks that must be performed on a daily basis.
Education, Experience, and Certifications:
Education
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience on a 10 key adding machine required.
- Typing skills of at least 30 words per minute required.
- Lifting of books (around 40lbs., at times) as well as opening boxes.
