Job Summary:
Nature of Work:
The School of Medicine Office of the Dean is seeking a highly skilled and strategic Business & Data Analytics Program Director to lead our analytics and drive data-driven decision-making across the school and campus. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of business processes, exceptional analytical skills, and a proven track record of leveraging data to inform and guide business strategy. This leadership role requires a combination of technical expertise, business acumen, strategy planning capabilities, and strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
The ideal candidate possesses expert-level business and financial acumen and has practical experience in fund accounting and financial analysis. This experience will serve as the basis for leading the financial planning and analytics (FP&A) of the Office of the Dean and drive data-based decision-making. Curated data, and future data points – yet to be identified - to enhance business and financial operations across the School of Medicine in partnership with Sr. Leaders within the School of Medicine Dean’s Office. This role will work closely with our IT partners within the School of Medicine and the Anschutz Medical Campus.
Supervision Received:
This position reports to the School of Medicine Business Affairs Director with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Associate Dean for Administration and Finance.
Supervision Exercised:
This position will supervise the FP&A Manager and two FTE analysts, as well as a future report writer.
Duties:
General Duties:
- Develop, implement, and maintain advanced analytics systems that simplify complex data problems into actionable insights.
- Compile and analyze complex datasets to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
- Lead initiative to collect, gather, and analyze data, enabling the insights to guide strategic decisions.
- Analyze to define opportunities, trends, missing information, data discrepancies, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets.
- Partner with the management team to establish business needs and create predictive models and machine-learning algorithms.
- Partner with appropriate internal contacts to ensure data security and compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Present information using data visualization techniques and prepare reports, recommendations, or alternatives to address existing and potential trouble areas within School of Medicine Dean’s Office initiatives across the School of Medicine.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with academic departments, research units, and clinical operations to enable data-driven decision-making.
- Utilize predefined and recommended metrics for leading and lagging indicators.
- Enable high-level analytics capabilities that inform key decisions.
- Partner with key data governance efforts on campus and affiliated partners, including accepted data definitions, reporting definitions, and access to data sets.
- Oversee and ensure the development and maintenance of data sourced from a wide variety of internal systems and external reporting on behalf of the Office of the Dean.
- Guide the collection and collation and ensure the accuracy of data and timely submission of all School of Medicine survey submissions and deliverables.
Analysis:
- Partner with the BI/Development team to utilize advanced data modeling, predictive modeling, and analytical techniques to interpret key findings from business data and translate these insights into proposals/plans that will support school and campus initiatives and outcomes.
- Perform ad hoc financial planning and analysis, report development, and problem-solving.
- Conduct forecasting (short & long-term), variance analysis, long-range strategic financial planning, and space plans/allocations.
- Communicate results and business impacts of insight initiatives to stakeholders within and outside of the school.
Partner/Collaborate:
- Partner with SOM-IT Application Development & Business Intelligence teams to develop and maintain reporting, dissemination, data automation systems, dashboards, and performance metrics. Develop a keen understanding of exception reporting needs and work with the SOM-IT Application Development & Business Intelligence teams to develop action-oriented distribution.
- Collaborate with SOM-IT resources to develop, manage, and optimize processes for data intake, modeling, validation, and visualization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, HR, operations, IT, and other Dean’s Office Units, to understand business requirements and ensure analytics reporting and solutions align with business needs.
- Partner with campus units and affiliate partners related to financial processes, analysis, and reporting.
- Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, fostering a data-driven decision-making culture throughout the school.

Work Location:

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in information technology, information systems, business administration, finance, accounting, healthcare administration, public administration, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
- Four (4) or more years of experience using a variety of analytics techniques to contribute to an organization’s strategic initiatives, projects, and business outcomes.
- Leadership requirement of two (2) years of experience managing and guiding data analytics or similar personnel.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in data analytics, with a proven ability to mine, evaluate, and visualize data.
A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree and experience requirements on a year-for-year basis.

- Master’s Degree or MBA in Business Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $95,581 to $128,000.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
