The Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine/Department of Medicine at UConn Health invites applications for the Position of Senior Faculty and Division Director
The Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (DOEM) is seeking a dynamic leader with research and program development experience and interests to join our division of over 30 faculty, researchers and staff. This position is offered at the Associate or Full Professor Rank to a qualified MD clinician scholar or a PhD investigator. A visionary leader is sought to lead the program in both established and new directions.
DOEM has a long history of cross-disciplinary collaborative work with the UConn Center on Aging, Industrial and Organizational (I/O) Psychology and Biomedical Engineering. Currently, there are eight PhD candidates engaged in research projects from these allied fields. In addition, DOEM hosts more than 4000 ft2 of dedicated contiguous laboratory space that includes human factors/biodynamic facilities, extensive mobile field equipment and a state-of-the-art anechoic chamber. The DOEM clinical program includes the UConn Health employee health and UConn Health EAP, ergonomics services as well as an occupational illness clinic. DOEM also has enjoyed longstanding and ongoing history of work with State public health and labor agencies and with progressive programs in the insurance industry.
DOEM is a key part of the Center for the Promotion of Health in the New England Workplace (CPH-NEW), a NIOSH funded Center of Excellence for Total Worker Health. A leadership position at CPH-NEW is a negotiable component of the Directorâs position. Due to a series of retirements, DOEM will be filling several vacancies, the appointment of new faculty or the transition of accompanying colleagues are options for negotiation for the new director based on DOEM needs and the candidateâs vision.
Current research activities and opportunities include a nationally groundbreaking participatory action research program with corrections personnel, studies on the aging workforce, and development and applications of wearable technologies. Recently completed research involved prevention of work disability. The successful candidate will be encouraged by the Department of Medicine to develop a new occupational or preventive medicine training program for resident and post-doctoral physicians.
We offer a collegial environment, competitive salary, and benefits. Candidates for this position should have experience and a strong interest in teaching, research, resident/medical student supervision and fellowship training, mentoring junior faculty and working with cross-disciplinary teams.
