Assistant Professor/Clinical â Sleep Disorders & Epilepsy Neurologist (1.0 FTE)Â
The physician who fills this position will need to diagnose and treat neurologic conditions which include cognitive/behavioral syndromes, epilepsy, traumatic injuries of the brain, cerebrovascular diseases like strokes, sleep disorders, cerebral palsy, encephalitis, infections that occur in the peripheral nervous system, tumors in the brain and spinal cord, multiple sclerosis, neurodegenerative disorders (including Parkinsonâs disease, Alzheimerâs disease, and Huntingtonâs disease), meningitis myelitis, movement disorders (including Gilles de la Tourette syndrome, tic disorder, and hemiballismus), altered mental higher status, coma, stupor, and encephalopathy. They may also have to treat neurological disorders for which there are no apparent physiological causes.Â
In addition to the above general neurology responsibilities, the physician who fills this position will develop a novel clinical practice for patients with Neurologic Sleep Disorders and Epilepsy. The range of sleep disorders that this neurologist will treat is wide and will include: Insomnia, sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, nocturnal seizures, parasomnias, and narcolepsy. This candidate should be knowledgeable concerning that and will have special interest and/or fellowship training in sleep medicine and epilepsy.

Responsible for clinical service, teaching, and clinical investigation.
Provide care of patients in the Neurology Outpatient Clinic, with a specific focus on Neurologic Sleep Disorders and Epilepsy with evaluation and treatment, when those patients are available, as well as general neurology patients.
Perform consultations and admit Neurology patients to John Dempsey Hospital.
Teach medical students, neurology residents and fellows in outpatient clinic and John Dempsey Hospital.
Help develop clinical program in Sleep Disorders Neurology, with teaching and research components.
 Minimum Qualifications: Neurology Residency; Board certified/eligible Neurologist

Special and Preferred Qualifications: Board certified/eligible in subspecialty.
One or more years of fellowship training in sleep medicine
and epilepsy.
