Vice-Chair for Education - Department of Anesthesiology
The Vice-Chair for Education - Department of Anesthesiology will be responsible for the operation of the Graduate Medical Education Training Program in Anesthesiology conducted at UConn Health's affiliated sites. The Vice-Chair must be approved by UConn Health's Graduate Medical Education Committee ("GMEC") and will also function as the Program Director for the residency program. The incumbent must be board-certified in Anesthesiology and have a minimum of 3 years of educational/administrative experience. A faculty appointment in the UConn School of Medicine, as well as hospital privileges at John Dempsey Hospital are required. The Vice-Chair will provide a minimum of 0.4 FTE to the administrative and educational activities of the Residency Program. The Vice-Chair will also provide a minimum of 0.05 FTE to oversee the medical student education portfolio of the Department. The Vice-Chair will report directly to the Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology. Direct reports to the Vice-Chair will be the Associate and Assistant Program Directors of the Residency Program, the Site Directors at each clinical site, and the Director and Assistant Director of Medical Student Education.
The Vice-Chair will:
oversee and ensure the quality of didactic and clinical education in all sites that participate in the program;
evaluate program faculty;
monitor resident supervision at all participating sites;
ensure compliance with grievance and due process procedures as set forth in the Institutional Requirements and implemented by the sponsoring institution;
be familiar with and comply with ACGME and Review Committee policies and procedures as outlined in the ACGME Manual of Policies and Procedures;
obtain review and approval of the sponsoring institution's GMEC/DIO before submitting information or requests to the ACGME
ensure that residents are integrated and actively participate in interdisciplinary clinical quality improvement and patient safety programs,
ensure a culture of professionalism that supports patient safety and personal responsibility,
Develop/maintain the program's curriculum in Milestones language,
Be involved in scholarly activity as it relates to performance improvement.
Promote faculty development within their department.
Be involved in supervision and teaching of house staff.
Disseminate program information through Town Hall Meetings biannually.
Take the annual program evaluation and provide feedback to the Chairman of the Department all of the affiliate hospitals annually.
Ensure Program's Accreditation Data System's Annual Updates are performed in a timely manner
Create an overall vision for Medical Student Education by the Department of Anesthesiology
Work to achieve a required Anesthesiology rotation in the Medical School Curriculum
Guide the planning of curriculum development and implementation for the medical student rotation.
