At UConn Health, this class is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance, of technology systems and automation within pharmacy operations. This position will work primarily days in UConn Health Pharmacy Services Inc. located in the Exchange, 270 Farmington Avenue, Suite 108 in Farmington, CT.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under limited supervision of an employee of higher grade.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Supervises and leads staff and multidisciplinary staff as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Develops, supervises, implements and maintains information technology and automation services within the pharmacy department including equipment and hardware
Serves as liaison to the Information Technology department and works collaboratively with Information Technology
Evaluates and tests system changes
Supervises the work of assigned staff
Conducts performance reviews and coordinates and/or provides staff training
Continuously evaluates and assists in maintaining patient billing system and conducts audits to determine accuracy of charges
Develops and reviews training materials
Coordinates and/or trains personnel on the information/computer systems and equipment
Maintains clinical information integrity of databases and develops and generates standardized and ad hoc reports
Ensures compliance with applicable guidelines
Performs Staff Pharmacist duties as appropriate to maintain current knowledge of pharmacy practices
Participates in risk management and performance improvement/quality assurance programs
Participates on committees
Maintains a current working knowledge of computer systems to support current computer applications and new development activities
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of pharmacy and pharmacology and pharmacy operations/services within an integrated health system including billing procedures
Considerable knowledge of information technology systems and tools
Technical knowledge of automated office equipment (e.g. scanner, fax machines) and pharmacy equipment including automated distribution devices (e.g. Automed, Talyst, Pyxis, etc.)
Knowledge of relevant Federal and State laws and accreditation guidelines
Effective communication (verbal and written)
Considerable interpersonal, problem-solving skills and analytical skills
Prioritization, organization and time-management skills
Ability to use pharmacy experience to configure clinical information systems
Ability to multi-task with ease and efficiency
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Ability to conduct educational presentations
Ability to proficiently utilize word processing, database and spreadsheet applications (such as Excel, MS Access)
Supervisory ability and ability to interact with all levels of staff.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
General Experience:
Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy with a B.S in Pharmacy or Pharm D degree and three (3) years' experience as a hospital and/or specialty Pharmacist with demonstrated computer and networking technology and pharmacy operations experience.
SUBSTITUTION ALLOWED:
ASHP PGY-1 Residency completion including informatics can substitute for two (2) years of the general experience
Other residencies including informatics may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATION:
Incumbents in this class must possess active State of CT Pharmacist license.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Experience using pharmacy operation systems such as CareFusion, Pyxis, QS1, Epic Willow or other similar systems.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
May be exposed to infectious/communicable diseases and some disagreeable conditions
SCHEDULE: Full time, 40 hours per week, primarily days, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, on call rotation may be required, must be able to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as assigned to accommodate departmental needs.
