At the UConn Health, this class is accountable for supervising the patient account functions.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Receives general direction from a higher ranking official.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Supervises lower level employees as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Schedules, assigns, oversee and reviews the work of staff; provides staff training and assistance; conducts performance evaluations; determines priorities and plans unit work; establishes and maintains unit procedures; develops or makes recommendations on the development of policies and standards; participates in unit budget development; acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures; prepares reports and correspondence; participates in negotiations with third party carriers for optimal reimbursement; manages physician files; reviews/approves all write-offs and notarizing of documents; responds to complex patient account problems; monitors special/courtesy accounts for accuracy; assures effective review of third party payments; maintains monthly A/R reports, cash reports, billing statistics; reviews discharge edit for delinquent data; performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Considerable knowledge of relevant agency policies and procedures; considerable knowledge of relevant State and Federal laws, statutes and regulations; knowledge of patient accounting, professional fee billing systems and health care administration; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; ability to schedule and prioritize workflow; supervisory ability.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
General Experience:
Six (6) years' experience in a health care, patient services, patient accounts environment.
Substitutions Allowed:
Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of experience in a health care, patient services, patient accounts environment.
Special Requirements:
6 years of ED leadership with 3 years of EPIC experience
HFMA CR certification or CHAA Certification is preferred
Two years of employee scheduling experience
SCHEDULE: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday including various shifts.
