Position Summary:

The person hired for this position will be located at Daniel J Curran Place in Dayton, OH and will be employed within the Nonstructural Materials Division (NSMD) of UDRI. The NSMD focuses on the broad area of materials science and engineering for both aerospace and industrial clients in both the government and commercial sectors of the USA. The primary purpose of this position to act as a Research Chemist that will provide support to a broad array of government and industrial research programs in the field of materials engineering in the Sealants and Elastomeric Materials (SEMAT) Group, focusing on soft polymeric materials. Conduct research and development in support of test and evaluation projects/programs and material compatibility evaluations for sealants, elastomers, and other polymeric materials. Conduct analyses on a variety of aerospace materials. Design and develop new hardware systems as needed to conduct these research programs. This position involves collaborating with other Scientists and Engineers in the SEMAT group, project planning by developing, implementing, and executing test plans of several customer testing programs. This individual will be required to help ensure the integrity of test results within budget and time constraints.



Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in Chemistry or Materials Engineering or other related degree with 1 years of directly related experience.
Experience working in a laboratory environment.
Experience with method development.
Expertise with various spectroscopy instrumentation and methods.
Experience with jet fuel and jet fuel alternatives.
Due to requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be U.S. Citizens.
The ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.



Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

8 years related work experience is preferred.
Prior Environmental Health and Safety experience is preferred.
Preferred candidates will have familiarity with other material classes (i.e., polymers, adhesives, composites).
Preferred candidates should have demonstrated the desire and ability to provide hands-on laboratory support.
Preferred candidates should have previous experience working in a government laboratory and university laboratory environments.
