Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of Student Life, the Assistant Director of Student Life manages the day-to-day gaming and student service operations for the office of Student Life, including the HIVE pantry, and implements programs designed to promote a student-centered environment. The Assistant Director works closely with students to initiate, plan, develop, and facilitate events and activities to enhance the quality of student life and University experience for all students. This position also serves supportive roles within the Division of Student Affairs as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Student Programming
- Plan, implement, and facilitate campus-wide programs that are aligned with our university’s mission and strategic plan for the Division of Student Affairs.
- Develops and plans, with and for students, smaller regularly occurring campus programming each semester, including but not limited to: destress events, movie nights, game nights, and other activities.
- Develops programs and services to meet the diverse needs of students at the university; works towards creating and communicating a welcoming environment that accepts differences, promotes tolerance, and creates opportunities for students to learn from each other.
- Provide oversight, management, and advisement of a dynamic Campus Activities Board to promote best practices and developmental learning opportunities for student leaders. Serve as a consultant and expert resource for programming and event planning; including but not limited to brainstorming, contract negotiating, event management, facility reservation, event execution, and evaluation.

- Collaborate with other university departments to plan and implement programs, activities, initiatives, and events.
- Actively promote in both traditional and non-traditional mediums, opportunities for the campus community to achieve maximum participation from constituents.
- Serves as liaison to university faculty/staff, students, and external organizations related to student programming.
- Collect and maintain data regarding general operation and qualitative evaluation of programming functions related to the area of responsibility.
- Assesses programming needs and effectiveness relevant to identified student learning outcomes; develops, implements, and revises programming as appropriate.
Student Life Office Management
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate student staff for Student Life Office activities.
- Maintain departmental van, coordinate driving certifications as necessary, and manage reservations for its use by other departments and students.
- Supports departmental activities such as SOAR, PTV, Titan Fest, and others.
- Provides oversight and implements the use of social media and emerging technology to publicize student events and enhance student engagement.
The HIVE Student Pantry
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate student staff for HIVE activities.
- Facilitate and maintain relationships with food partners to support HIVE resources.
- Collect and maintain data regarding the general operation and evaluation of the HIVE functions.
- Maintain HIVE budget and resources.
- Serve as liaison to the university faculty, staff, and students and coordinate public relations.
- Assist with food retrieval and distribution.
Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- May represent the department on various university committees.
- Coordinates and assists with special projects when assigned.
- Works evenings, nights, and weekends as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Education – A college degree or four to eight years of work experience in a related field. Bachelor’s degree required.
- Experience – Two years to five years (Equivalent combination of education and employment).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, a Master’s degree in higher education/student affairs or related field preferred, with progressive experience in the management and administration of student activities or a student union.
- Excellent verbal and written communication required
- Intermediate level knowledge with Microsoft Office Suite required
- Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of student development theory, techniques, and research associated with ensuring the success of diverse student populations.
- Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
- Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- May represent the department on various university committees.
- Coordinates and assists with special projects when assigned.
- Works evenings, nights, and weekends as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
Job requires repetitive lifting of light weight objects with frequent bending and stooping, or repetitively lift average weight objects where frequent bending or stooping alternates with lighter activities. Occasionally lifts heavy objects (over 50 pounds).
Work Environment
Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
Salary/Pay Information
Commensurate with experience
Anticipated Schedule
Monday to Friday 8.30 AM to 5.00 PM.
