Position Summary
The primary focus of this position is planning and coordinating career readiness programs, student support and cross-campus collaboration. The career readiness coordinator offers individual career coaching, internship, and job-search advising to students and alumni, develops and presents outreach programming and workshops, and develops positive relationships with students, employers, faculty, staff, alumni, and parents. The career readiness coordinator may also assist with administration of online tools, data collection, management, and reporting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Career Counseling/Programming
- Assist undergraduate students, graduate students and alumni in clarifying career goals related to their academic programs through individual or group career counseling.
- Administer and interpret assessment instruments (Focus2) and computerized career guidance systems as needed.
- Train students on the use of multiple career platforms, including Handshake through individual and group sessions.
- Stay up to date on current industry trends as well as hiring and job search best practices.
- Assist students and alumni in the development of career materials (resumes, cover letters, graduate school applications, portfolios, etc.)
- Train and coach students on career readiness skills (interviewing, networking, job search strategies).
- Plan/Develop/Facilitate workshops and give presentations on career related topics to classes and student groups/organizations.
- Work with career center team to develop new career events and initiatives to address career needs and create opportunities for engagement and connections with employers or alumni
- Work with career center team to increase student participation in internships and other experiential activities.
- Assist in reviewing and updating existing career resources and/or development of new materials.
- Plan/Develop/Co-Lead coordination of the career center’s annual events calendar, including promotion of events through a wide array of techniques and platforms to increase student engagement.
- Assist in other departmental activities, events and programs that align with the center’s mission, including career fairs, orientation, visit days, and community outreach.
- Co-hires, trains and supervises office work-study students.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Education – A college degree and a professional certificate or graduate degree; or 10 or more years of work experience in a related field.
Experience – Two years to five years (Equivalent combination of Education and Employment).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, student personnel counseling preferred.
- Experience using Blackboard or other Learning Management System (LMS).
- Experience with career advising, coaching, and mentoring relationships with students, collegial relationships with staff and faculty required.
• Certified Career Services Provider (CCSP)
• Certification in Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF).
• NACE Coaching Certification Program (CCP)
• Experience or Certification in TypeFocus Careers or Myers-Briggs Type Indicator preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong computer skills, with knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, career management systems (Handshake), social media platforms and visual design software (Canva, or similar.)
- Knowledge of job search strategies and career development theories, best practices, and resources. As well as resume writing and interviewing skills development.
- Experience with career advising, coaching, and mentoring relationships with students.
- Knowledge of and experience in utilizing career assessment tools and platforms for student career guidance.
- Knowledge of professional standards for college/university career services and Career Readiness Competencies for college graduates.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including oral, written, and listening communication capabilities.
- Knowledge of experiential learning (internships, cooperative education, externships) standards and definitions as defined by National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate events and programs.
- Ability to take initiative, multi-task, provide attention to detail, and consistently report updates to the team.
- Ability to build relationships across populations, internal and external to the University.
Physical Requirements
Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).
Work Environment
Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
Salary/Pay Information
Commensurate with experience
Anticipated Schedule
Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm Some Saturdays and Evenings.
