Position Description
Title: College and Career Readiness Coordinator
Position Type: Full-time (32 hours/week, Monday – Thursday, Year-round)
Rate of Pay: $23-$27/hour based on experience and qualifications
Benefits: Four weeks accrued PTO plus paid holidays; medical, vision, and dental coverage; and a 3% 403B match retirement plan
Description: Mercy Education Project (MEP) provides educational services for underserved girls living primarily in southwest Detroit. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the College and Career Readiness Coordinator will create and implement a comprehensive College and Career Readiness (CCR) program and oversee it during the school year. CCR is a comprehensive high school-level educational initiative designed to (1) assist with the college search and application process, including essay writing, financial aid, scholarship research and college visits, (2) offer guidance on career pathways, including exposure to different careers to help students make informed decisions about their futures, (3) build essential soft skills including communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, time management, and adaptability, which are crucial for both college and career success, (4) address students’ personal development needs (Social Emotional Learning) including self-awareness, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making.
This position is Monday-Thursday from 11:00 am-7:00 pm from September to May and flexible daytime hours during the summer and on school breaks. Occasional weekend availability is required.
Summary of Main Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute the CCR main program on Wednesday evenings from 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm
- Plan and execute Activity Time programs for high school students Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 4:30–5:30 (same program each day of the week)
- Connect and partner with local high schools (Western International, Cesar Chavez Academy, Cass Tech, etc.) to determine and fill gaps in college and career learning
- Bring CCR to local high schools by offering College and Career Readiness sessions in schools during the school day
- Recruit incoming 9th-12th grade girls from local high schools and academies to attend MEP’s programming
- Recruit and encourage MEP 8th graders to enroll in CCR as 9th graders
- Recruit and maintain contact with guest speakers, presenters, and/or organize outside programming to better meet the needs of the girls
- Plan and supervise a mentorship program
- Assist the Director of Development in building an Alumnae Relations Program for MEP Girls’ Programming graduates
- Keep in contact with students through their college experiences
- Plan, organize, and attend college visits throughout the year
- Plan summer activities for high school girls and assist with Girls’ Programming Summer Camps, especially those involving middle school and high school students
- Be actively present during Girls’ Programming and serve as a substitute tutor in when needed, especially for middle school and high school students
Required Qualifications/Abilities:
· Bachelor’s degree
· At least 2-3 years of relevant experience
· Excellent planning, networking, organizational, and time management skills
· Efficient and effective communication skills with community partners/high schools/colleges/universities
· Skillful in successfully coordinating multiple programs or projects
· Experience building rapport and working with a diverse student population
· Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team
· Willingness to adapt to daily programming needs
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
· Successfully complete a background check and fingerprinting as required
· Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus
