Position Summary
This position collaborates with University stakeholders to create a positive, seamless and memorable experience for campus visitors. It serves as the primary point of contact for prospective students visiting University of Detroit Mercy. The role also acts as an admission counselor in a swing capacity, meeting with prospective students and their families as needed. Additionally, this position oversees and supervises the student staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Initiates, plans, coordinates and evaluates the reception and scheduling of all visitors to the Office of Admissions and related meetings with other University departments. This includes, but is not limited to, campus tours, admission and scholarship interviews, class visits, faculty and staff interviews, overnight on-campus accommodations, information sessions and group visits.
- Works collaboratively with the admission counseling staff and other stakeholders to ensure a positive, seamless and memorable experience for campus visitors.
- Manages front desk/reception duties including answering the phones, scheduling staff and responding to requests for campus visits and special programs.
- Handles all related correspondence with prospective students and their parents in regards to campus visitations and group visits.
- Maintains and evaluates statistical information on all visitors to the Office of Admissions.
- Produces visit related reports for the management team.
- Assists with the coordination of yield activities and off-campus programs, including Visit Days, Accepted Students Day and freshman orientation.
- Coordinates and evaluates the selection, hiring and performance of campus tour guides.
- Plans, coordinates, implements and evaluates the volunteer efforts of current students in assisting with recruitment of prospective students.
- Acts as an assistant admission counselor, as needed, to meet with prospective students and their families to provide information about the University.
- Provides coverage for select college fairs.
- Coordinates responses to the admissions text messaging and email communication flow.
- Assists in the management of the day-to-day work of the Office of Admissions.
- Works with the Vice President, Directors, Associate and Assistant Directors and all members of the staff to achieve the goals and objectives for the Office of Admissions.
- Assumes other duties and responsibilities deemed necessary by the Vice President, Directors, Associate and Assistant Directors.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Education – A bachelor’s degree.
Preferred Qualifications
Must have attention to detail with a hospitality mindset.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Effective interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Clear verbal and written abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities to accomplish required productivity goals.
- Ability to use computer software and applications essential to performing job duties.
- Available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Physical Requirements
Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).
Work Environment
Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
Licenses/Certifications
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

Upper $40's
Anticipated Schedule
Monday – Friday, 8:30 am-5:00 pm. Evenings and Weekends as needed.
