DETROIT SPORTS COMMISSION SPRING / SUMMER INTERNSHIP
The Detroit Sports Commission (DSC) is searching for and interviewing possible candidates for internships for spring and summer sessions with emphasis on the summer of 2025 working on events, sales and marketing initiatives. The DSC is a non-profit subsidiary of the Visit Detroit and hosts amateur sporting events in the Metro Detroit area. The DSC works with organizations such as the NCAA, AAU, USSSA, MHSAA, and USA Olympic sports.
INTERNSHIP DETAILS
Dates : May-August 2025
Location : Detroit, MI
Hours : Students will be expected to work 15-28 hour workweeks from April to August. Before or during events, hours may exceed 40 hours in one week and could involve some nights and weekends, and Labor Day weekend. A work schedule will be developed at the beginning of the internship.

Description : The internship will focus on several projects and events, including :
Apr 26-27 : 2025 Can-Am Classic (Volleyball)
May : Prep Kickoff Classic High School Visits
June 2 : 5th Annual Flagstar Bank Detroit Sports Commission Golf Classic
Jul 22-Aug 4 : 2025 State Wars 21 (Roller Hockey)
Jul 27-Aug 3 : 2025 Theatre on Ice National Showcase
Aug 5-11 : 2025 Bassmaster Elite (Fishing)
Aug 28-29 : 2025 Prep Kickoff Classic (Football)
The internship will offer experience in sports event management, as well as experience in marketing, communications, and sales. You will assist in, but will not be limited to :
- Educating and building awareness of various sporting events
- Event Management that includes :
Customer Service, Hospitality Management, Security / Access Control, Signage / Décor, Facilitating / Ordering Awards, Facility Management, and PR and Marketing
Students will also gain sales experience by helping to research new events to bring to Metro Detroit and to formulate bids for these events. These projects will teach students about the processes needed to secure amateur and national sporting events for the region.
