Position Summary:
A Senior Payroll Specialist is responsible for overseeing all aspects of payroll processing, including data entry, calculations, compliance checks, and reporting, ensuring timely and accurate payments to employees while adhering to all relevant regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review all documentation to verify appropriate approval before updates are made
- Enter employee information in our Jenzabar software timely and update employees benefits accordingly
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll completed in our Jenzabar software, which would include calculate, review, and balance the complex payrolls
- Balance General ledger accounts monthly
- Review and resolve payroll discrepancies in a timely manner
- Maintain accurate employee payroll records
- Process all benefit and tax payments timely and accurately
- Prepare quarterly and annual reports timely and accurately
- Maintain both timekeeping systems to ensure hours are received by specific deadlines
- Balance payroll, tax and benefit associated accounts
- Prepare annual documents, balancing and other requests for annual financial and 403b audit
- Identify efficiency gains in the payroll process
- Adhere to all federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including tax withholdings, garnishments, and reporting requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned in support the University's Mission
Position Skills and Abilities:
- Perform complex specialized payroll calculations and support functions
- Review, adjust and reconcile payroll data

- Maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
- Ability to analyze payroll data, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues
- High level of accuracy in data entry and calculations to ensure payroll compliance
- Ability to clearly communicate payroll information to employees and cabinet members
Qualifications:
- Four-year accounting degree
- Experience processing payroll and payroll tax issues
- Knowledge of working software such as Adobe and Microsoft
- Knowledge of accounting procedures and thorough understanding of federal, state, and local payroll laws
- Strong communication and organization skills
