Position Summary
As an Academic Advisor, you will collaborate with students to support their academic journey by guiding them through course selection, major exploration, academic goal setting, and personal development. You will also engage in proactive outreach, oversee the peer coaching program, and develop workshops to address the academic needs of the student body.
Key Responsibilities
Student Support:
- Assist undeclared students with exploring majors and career paths.
- Provide guidance on program requirements, general education, graduation requirements, and academic policies.
- Offer one-on-one support for students to encourage goal setting, time management, and study skills.
Academic Success Initiatives:
- Meet with students in the Academic Restoration and Student Success Programs.
- Work with students in academic distress to develop action plans and connect them to campus resources.
- Conduct outreach to students based on absences, early alerts, and other academic indicators.
Workshops and Events:
- Plan and facilitate workshops on topics such as time management, study skills, and registration processes.
- Provide drop-in classroom support for skills-building sessions.
- Organize tabling events to promote academic success resources.
Peer Coaching Program:
- Manage the peer coaching program, including hiring, scheduling, and approving hours.
Communication and Outreach:
- Create and distribute communications and advertisements for Academic Services.
Professional Development:
- Engage in continuous learning independently and as part of the Academic Advising team.
Other Duties:
- Participate in other assigned responsibilities that support the mission of Academic Services and the University.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
Preferred:
- Experience in academic advising, student services, or related fields.
- Proficiency in creating and delivering workshops or student programming.
