Duties And Responsibilities

Content Optimization & Placement:

  • Work with the communications and marketing team to strategically place content across the university’s unit and college web pages, ensuring that it is relevant and accessible to target audiences.
  • Optimize content for search engines (SEO) to improve visibility and drive traffic to the university's website.
  • Ensure content is formatted in a visually engaging and user-friendly manner, adhering to best practices for web design and accessibility.
  • Organize content in a logical and intuitive manner, making it easy for users to find relevant information and navigate the website.
  • Implement cross-linking strategies to ensure that users can easily find links to related content on pages they are likely to visit, directing them to source pages even if they do not navigate directly to them.

Streamlining Content Across Units And Colleges

  • Manage ongoing audits of existing content across various unit and college web pages to identify gaps and areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement a plan to streamline and standardize content across all units, departments, and colleges, ensuring a consistent and cohesive presentation.
  • Collaborate with representatives from different units and colleges to gather relevant content, including information about programs, personnel, research, and achievements.
  • Ensure that all web pages provide an optimal level of engaging content that gives users insight into the work and accomplishments of the units, departments, and colleges, presented in a fresh and insightful manner.

Coordination With Content Creators

  • Collaborate with content creators, including writers, designers, and multimedia specialists, to ensure cohesive and consistent messaging across all digital platforms.
  • Provide guidance on best practices for content creation, including SEO, readability, and visual appeal.
  • Coordinate with content creators on the use of e-newsletters and social media to promote website content and engage with the university community.

General Duties

  • Stay up-to-date with trends in web design, user experience, and digital content management to continuously improve the university’s online presence.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English, Digital Media, Graphic Design or related field and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for digital content management, web content optimization, or a similar role; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of communications or digital content management as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with digital communications and marketing content creation and dissemination.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing software, and computer software programs included below.
  • If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
  • Strong understanding of SEO principles, web analytics, and digital marketing strategies.
  • Proficiency in content management systems (CMS) and web design tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and handle a wide variety of assignments simultaneously on deadline.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and organization skills, attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to use computer software programs and cloud-based applications including but not limited to WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere), Google Analytics and other SEO tools, MailChimp, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides; or comparable programs.
  • Familiarity with various standard style guides.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience working with and knowledge of post-secondary education and its organizational structure, policies, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with conventional publication design layout concepts and ability to supervise design layout and set-up.
