Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits provided to regular Board of Regents (BOR) and Civil Service employees (i.e. paid holidays/leave). Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Other Conditions: Casual Hire temporary appointment is expected to begin May 12, 2025 or soon thereafter.
Duties:
- Assist with packing, unpacking, and transportation of all equipment and supplies to and from the field site
- Assist with field site set up and take down
- Assist with maintaining cleanliness at the field site
- Refuel vehicles when necessary
- Assist with generator operations, including starting and stopping generators and purchasing and filling fuel
- Provide access to field site through property gate for program faculty, staff, and guests
- Plan all meals and purchase supplies and ingredients from approved vendors
- Prepare three meals per day for all faculty, staff, students, and guests present on site
- Prepare snacks for morning dive activities
- Maintain food safety protocols at all times, including but not limited to:
- Storage in closed containers to keep away from pests
- Storage in coolers or freezers to keep perishable items within acceptable temperature ranges
- Maintaining clean cooking and preparation surfaces
- Assist QUEST Logistics Coordinator with managing the food budget, including keeping track of purchase orders and all receipts, and entering amounts spent into a budget spreadsheet
- Maintain all cooking equipment (including, but not limited to, grills, burners, cutting boards, and cooking dishes/utensils) to ensure that it is clean and properly functioning
- Supervise camp site while students and faculty are off-site to ensure security of camp and personal gear
Minimum Qualifications:
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in any field; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
- Ability to be located at field site (in South Kona) May 16-June 1, 2025.
- Driver’s license valid in Hawaii for passenger vehicles.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience driving 12-passenger vans
- Prior experience with MARE 264/364 or similar course
- Experience preparing meals for up to 50 people
