Duties:
- Assist with packing, unpacking, and transportation of all equipment and supplies to and from the field site
- Assist with field site set up and take down
- Assist with maintaining cleanliness at the field site
- Assist with preparation and maintenance of all scientific and teaching equipment
- Transport empty tanks to approved dive shop for filling, and return them to field site full
- Maintain equipment safety protocols at all times, including but not limited to:
- Ensuring all students who are handling gear are wearing closed-toed shoes
- Ensuring tanks loaded into vehicles do not exceed HAZMAT limits
- Ensuring all gear and equipment is properly secured during transportation
- Purchase scientific and diving equipment and supplies from approved vendors
- Refuel vehicles when necessary
- Assist with generator operations, including starting and stopping generators and purchasing and filling fuel
- Participate in dives as safety support and student observer
- Provide feedback to students and faculty regarding student diving skills and performance
- Assist with coordinating transportation of gear to and from dive sites
- Provide access to field site through property gate for program faculty, staff, and guests
- Supervise camp site while students and faculty are off-site to ensure security of camp and personal gear
Minimum Qualifications:
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in any field; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
- Experience participating in or supporting educational activities in a field setting
- Ability to be located at field site (in South Kona) May 16-June 1, 2025.
- Driver’s license valid in Hawaii for passenger vehicles.
Desirable Qualifications:
- AAUS Scientific Diver Authorization
- Experience driving 12-passenger vans
- Prior experience with MARE 264/364 or similar course
