Duties and Responsibilities
(NOTE: ** denotes Essential Functions)

  • **Serves as the Regional Infrastructure Coordinator for the UH Center for Indigenous Innovation and Health Equity (CIIHE) to coordinate efforts related to supporting community research and program initiatives in partnership with CIIHE’s network of partners
  • **Provides administrative support and technical assistance to ensure smooth execution of research and program initiatives, including data collection, materials development, and reporting
  • **Works alongside researchers, academic professionals, and cultural professionals to ensure cultural accuracy and respect
  • **Collaborates with community partners to ensure articulated research aspects of Indigenous practices and methodologies are accurately and thoroughly represented through traditional evaluation processes
  • **Disseminates findings from community projects with CIIHE’s broader network of stakeholders and provides recommendations on how CIIHE, the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation, and University of Hawai'i System can better support infrastructure for community research initiatives
  • **Works closely with the Principal Investigators and Director to implement and revise best practices for community project collaborations
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Professional Work Experience
  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Studies, Communications or related field and 2 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for operational support for community-based initiatives; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of community-based initiatives demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.
  • Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with community-based initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of community-based initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, and apply word processing software.

Supplemental Minimum Qualifications
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license which is required for travel.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders from various sectors and engaging multigenerational communities.
  • Considerable knowledge of public health and indigenous evaluation concepts.
  • Excellent organization, writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Strong multi-tasking ability and capacity to keep up with a fast-paced and often relationship-driven work environment.

Desired Qualifications
  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the areas of Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander community networks, culture, history, and practices.
  • Skilled communicator, including with Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander community practitioners, colleagues, and executive-level leaders.
