Duties and Responsibilities (*denotes essential functions)
  • *Under the direction of the program director, provides staff support to the master’s degree program in mental health counseling, with respect to academic policy, planning and evaluation.
    • Under the direction of the program director, manages graduate student community practicum/internship field site placements, including responsibility for fostering relationships with government mental health programs and nonprofit community mental health agencies, connecting graduate students with field placement sites, mentoring students during the interview and placement process, completing affiliation agreements, managing list of placements with updated supervisor contact information to program faculty, insuring students have proper pre-practicum paperwork completed (e.g., background fingerprinting; liability insurance).
    • Organizes and coordinates program admissions including corresponding with potential applicants to the program and reviewing applicant transcripts to determine eligibility for program with support of program director.
    • Responsible for program marketing including maintaining program brochure and marketing materials, holding open house meetings for the program, attending career and graduate school fairs, and maintaining relationships with advisors at 4-year institutions in the state that serve as a pipeline to the program.
    • Responsible for maintaining program website and proposes changes to improve communication of program information with the public.
    • Manages data collection and data preparation for national accreditation efforts and assists program director in writing reports to national accreditation agencies.
    • Under the direction of the program director, develops and implements, annual program evaluation to include creating and distributing surveys, coordinating focus groups, analyzing and preparing data, disseminating reports, and coordinating townhalls or other forums for evaluation feedback.
    • Coordinates new student orientation and student in-person on-campus visits.
    • Develops and implements a system for maintaining accurate and complete student and program files.
    • Develops and implements alumni engagement program including obtaining alumni emails and alumni listserv, completing annual alumni survey of licensure and current employment. Responds to queries and requests from alumni.
  • Under the direction of the program director, manage program and extramural budgets for the mental health counseling program, ensuring compliance with university and funding agency policies.
  • Coordinate procurement activities, including purchasing and contract management, to support program needs.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with university fiscal officers to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Maintains graduate student handbook, and recommends changes to program curriculum, policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Manages inventory of psychological assessment training materials for students and faculty.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in any field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience in the human service field; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of graduate program administration and mental health counseling education as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with graduate education administration, mental health counseling professional development and licensure, and national accreditation standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing software, Excel worksheets, and survey software.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling or related field.
  • Existing working relationships with community mental health partners in the state.
  • Experience in academic program administration, student services, or a related area in higher education including developing and implementing academic policies, program evaluation strategies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience working with mental health counseling programs, including experience coordinating practicum or internship placements, preferably in a counseling or human service setting.
  • Experience with graduate program admissions including student recruitment, outreach, and program marketing in higher education
