Duties and Responsibilities
*Manage the collection, compilation, validation, benchmarking, and dissemination of data from various sources, including campus offices, University information systems, national databases and published sources.
*Maintain a considerable knowledge base of data from the UH Student data warehouse and other warehouses and systems as appropriate.
*Perform complex queries to conduct advanced searches, gather, and summarize data for analysis in relational databases.
*Collaborate with University offices and external agencies to collect information for external surveys and university reports; improve the quality and comprehensiveness of the information, reporting accuracy, and timeliness.
Ensure data quality by working with colleagues to identify and resolve problems with data accuracy.
Build and update an in-house crosswalk between various student, employee, program, department, and course data tables for comprehensive data reporting.
*Collaborate with colleagues to design interactive data reporting and visualization tools.
*Apply both qualitative and quantitative strategies and methodologies for complex research projects.
*Conduct campus-wide research for evaluation and planning purposes (including for academic and administrative programs) such as overseeing all necessary procedures to successfully administer campus-wide surveys.
*Design and provide comprehensive reporting and training via concise written summaries and engaging oral presentations.
*Create compelling data visualizations (charts, graphs, slideshows, dashboards) to simplify complex information.
*Respond to ad hoc data and report requests from UH Manoa administration and offices, faculty, state and federal agencies, and other stakeholders.
*Maintain office website and update with new data and reports.
Anticipate and identify stakeholder information needs by reviewing national, regional, and University developments in the context of higher education.
Stay current with emerging AI technologies and methodologies in institutional research, evaluating their potential applications and implementing them where appropriate.
Serve on task forces, working groups, and committees as needed.
Supervise graduate students and student help.
Other duties as assigned.
*Denotes Essential FunctionsMinimum Qualifications
Possession of a baccalaureate degree in statistics, psychology, sociology, public policy, educational research, data science, economics, quantitative methods, research methods, measurement and evaluation, or related field and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for administrative and program research analysis and reporting; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of statistical analysis, data analysis and reporting, and large-scale survey administration as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and theories and systems associated with academic planning, research and analysis.
Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problem in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally, and by preparation of reports and other materials.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing and spreadsheet software, and databases for statistics reporting.
If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
Demonstrated ability to do detailed and accurate work.
Familiarity with Structured Query Language (SQL).
Desirable Qualifications
Master's degree with coursework in statistics, quantitative methods, research methods, measurement and evaluation, or data science.
Professional experience with data analysis in a higher education environment.
Knowledge of higher education information systems.
Knowledge of data warehousing.
Experience using business intelligence tools or statistical software packages to support decision making.
