Other Conditions: Contingent on course offerings and student demand, to begin approximately Fall 2025, availability of funds, and actual staffing requirements. The position may be converted from 11 to 9 months or 9 to 11 months based on operational needs.Duties and Responsibilities
Under general supervision, teach assigned Korean language courses including design, delivery, and assessment in terms of student-learning outcomes; develop and/or update course content and materials and teaching and assessment strategies and methods to
improve student attainment of learning outcomes;
address the learning needs of the college's diverse students;
integrate thinking and writing skills into course content, as appropriate; and
use technology and multimedia resources to support instruction.
Plan, organize, and independently carry out independent instructional and non-instructional assignments.
Perform other teaching-related duties that include, but are not limited to, preparing course syllabi and maintaining office hours for academic advising and for conferring with students about course work (one office hour per week per three-credit class).
Regular workload may include evening and weekend classes, continuing-education classes, distance-education classes, and teaching at off-campus sites.
Non-teaching duties include
working collegially to provide service to the department and college,
engaging in public service related to one's professional status and/or expertise,
engaging in professional development, and
engaging in professional or scholarly activities related to one's discipline or teaching.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Functionally native oral and written fluency in Korean, the ability to communicate in English, and one of the following:
Master’s degree in Korean (language or literature); OR
Master’s degree in Korean as a Second Language; OR
Master’s degree in the study of the culture or history of the people who speak Korean; OR
Master’s degree in Linguistics, ESL, Education or another language with a minimum of 12 credits of advanced coursework in second language methodology, Korean literature, Korean culture, or any combination thereof.
Note: Minimum qualifications must be met by the effective date of appointment.
Desirable Qualifications
Evidence of experience integrating speaking, writing, technology and thinking skills in the teaching of the Korean language;
Successful teaching at the post-secondary level as substantiated by student and peer assessments.
Evidence of ability to work in a collegial manner with peers, department chairs, and administrators;
Successful use of technology to support all modes of instruction.
Commitment to the mission and values of the community college with its open-door and multicultural populations;
Ability to initiate, execute, and complete projects, including setting specific objectives and measuring results;
Demonstrated evidence of the ability to develop Korean literature and/or culture courses;
Familiarity with the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) scale.
