Duties & Responsibilities (*denotes essential functions):

  • Represents Honolulu Community College (HonCC) and its programs, including admissions, registration, campus resources and academic programs, to external and internal constituencies via face-to-face and virtual events, as well as through written correspondence, email, telephone, texting and social media.
  • Develops, coordinates and implements recruitment and enrollment related strategies, processes, activities and procedures to support potential students through the enrollment process. Attend and participate in recruitment fairs and various events to promote HonCC which includes evenings and weekends hours.
  • Establishes and maintains long-term partnerships with public and private Hawai‘i high schools by coordinating and participating in recruitment and enrollment activities at various locations including neighbor islands, and serves as the primary HonCC liaison.
  • Creates and implements recruitment and enrollment strategies for prospective high school student groups including those who are low income, underrepresented. Responsible for tracking and maintaining meaningful contact with students leading to enrollment.
  • Collects and analyzes data to evaluate enrollment efforts and uses data to identify strategies and areas for improvement.
  • Serves as the Designated School Official with SEVIS to assist in the management of international student affairs to include I-20 issuance/reporting, INS advising and OPT tracking.
  • Facilitates the development of informational material about Honolulu Community College for distribution to students, parents, teachers, administrators, and other centers of influence.
  • Uses technology and UH systems (SIS, CRM, etc.) to track students and facilitate communication to support recruitment and enrollment.
  • Establishes effective working relationships and partnerships with educational officials public and private, to promote HonCC, its programs and student enrollment.
  • Supervises student assistants and student ambassadors who support recruitment and enrollment efforts.
  • Assists the Registrar to establish internal procedures to ensure compliance with Honolulu Community College, UH System, state, federal or other pertinent policies, rules and regulations.
  • Keeps abreast of current developments in higher education relevant to assigned functions
  • Represents HonCC on system-wide committees and working groups focused on enrollment and community engagement, ensuring that the needs and voices of the local community are reflected in broader institutional enrollment strategies.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in counseling, education, humanities, social sciences, sociology, psychology, business, marketing, STEM, or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for educational enrollment, recruitment, student/educational counseling, admissions & records, financial aid, or other related student services field; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in student recruitment or enrollment as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with student enrollment, admissions, records, and information.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
  • Ability to travel independently in a timely and efficient manner to various locations on O‘ahu and neighbor islands as necessary.
  • Able to work evenings and weekends as required.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Master's degree in counseling, education, sociology, psychology, business, marketing, humanities or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in student services, enrollment, or transition from secondary education to higher education.
  • Working knowledge of community college mission, admission policies and procedures, financial aid process, academic programs, or student support services.
  • Knowledge of nontraditional student populations that include socio-economically disadvantaged youth, underrepresented communities
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with centers of influence in high schools and administrators and professionals in higher education.
