Description:
The Human Resources Generalist performs human resource-related duties at the professional level and will be responsible for working in the following areas but not limited to: payroll, benefits administration, Family Medical Leave administration, Workers’ Compensation, and supporting the on-boarding and off-boarding process for all benefits-eligible faculty and staff.
Duties:
- Administers Family and Medical Leave Act benefits, including the use of disability and leave pool benefits as they relate. Informs employees of FMLA rights and responsibilities; determines if eligible and qualified for FMLA and approves; tracks use of leave and use of FML hours; completes ePARs to place employees on leave and to return to work; maintains accurate records and ensures the confidentiality of medical information. Coordinates other leave requests per policy.
- Payroll-related support including, but not limited to: responding to unemployment claims, processing employment verifications, and assists with on- and off-cycle payroll processes. Enters all adjustments to deduct on pay-lines and checks to make sure screens in PeopleSoft are activated and deactivated upon on-boarding and off-boarding.
- Supports the new employee on-boarding process including benefits enrollment in ERS system, retirement and processing prior state service verifications. Processes all employee separations from the University, ensuring that exiting employees have completed the necessary documentation.
- Assists employees with workers' compensation claims and files required forms with appropriate university offices and the State Office of Risk Management.
- Processes tuition reimbursement, college release, and fitness release time programs including approving applications, maintaining electronic tracking, and processing additional pay ePARs as needed. Processes all employee legal name changes and tracks and administers Wellness Leave. Performs related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resource Management, Management, or a related field.
- A minimum three years of human resources experience.
- Knowledge of FMLA, workers' compensation, and payroll practices.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a pleasant and personable demeanor.
- Must have a strong initiative and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to meet competing deadlines under pressure while maintaining accuracy with a strong attention to detail.
- Strong follow through on commitments, using sound judgment with the ability to recognize and handle sensitive/confidential information.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and efficient working relationships with employees at all levels of the University.
- Exemplifies the desired culture of the Human Resources Office including the ability to work effectively as a team member with employees, management and the Human Resources staff.
- Ability to complete assignments within specified deadlines accurately and efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree.
Experience in benefits administration, FMLA, and Worker’s Compensation, etc.
SHRM-CP, PHR, or other Human Resources related certification.
