Reporting to the Director of Strategic Events and Conference Services in Auxiliary Services, with frequent coordination with the AVP of Auxiliary Services and the Office of the President the Strategic Events Manager plays a vital role in creating a professional and welcoming environment with a primary focus on the University Residence, ensuring all events are executed seamlessly and that the residence is maintained to the highest standard.
Position Overview:
The Strategic Events Manager oversees the organization, management, and event support at the university-owned residence of the Office of the President. This full-time role involves managing all aspects of events, including dining services, facility setup, supply procurement, and related personal services. The position also performs light routine upkeep of event spaces and serves as the primary point of event related contact for the residence, ensuring the residence is prepared for events and maintained in optimal condition through daily assessments and proactive communication.
Required Experience:

Three years of event leadership and management experience including:
- Development and implementation of programs, activities and large-scale projects, which include conceptualizing, coordinating detailed plans and follow through to meet deadlines
- Execution of outcome-based events that promote or advance a brand and/or support organizational objectives
- Managing multiple projects and events with competing timelines
Required Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Other:
- Willingness to travel and work extended hours with a flexible schedule, which may include weekends and holidays
- Must have valid drivers license and ability to meet U of I driving requirements
Additional Preferred:
- Knowledge of event industry standards, best practices, and trends
- Experience in fundraising or advancement
- Exceptional verbal and written communication and editing skills
- Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail and meticulous organizational skills
- Experience using Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) technology and event management software
- Two years of project management experience
- Experience in operational efficiency and optimal use of resources; an aptitude for use of data and metrics in decision-making; the ability to plan, monitor, and tightly manage a budget
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor in a high-stress environment, identifying and independently resolving problems swiftly
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Ability to move continuously about and between event spaces and locations for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift, push, pull, carry, and/or otherwise move materials up to 25 pounds
