The Mankin & Vasquez-Laslop lab studies molecular mechanisms of protein synthesis. We are investigating how the ribosome, the most ancient and sophisticated molecular machine of the cell, makes proteins, how translation factors help it in this endeavor, and how antibiotics prevent it from doing its job. We are also engineering the ribosome to enable new functions and getting insights in its origin and evolution.
Duties & Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in science or related field required.
- A minimum of 3 years of related research experience.
- Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices, and methods.
- Proficient in specific lab research techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Science, Biology, Biochemistry, or Microbiology preferred.
- Previous experience with lab work.
- Protein and DNA/RNA handling experience is preferred.
- Previous experience with gene cloning.
- Previous experience with DNA and/or RNA analysis, including gel electrophoresis.
- Prior research lab experience outside of coursework is preferred.
