Teaching Assistant ProfessorCollege of Fine and Applied ArtsDepartment of Urban and Regional PlanningUniversity of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign The Department of Urban and Regional Planning (DURP) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track faculty position specializing in transportation and geographic information systems (GIS). The ideal candidate would also demonstrate a commitment to innovative approaches to transportation and GIS in equitable and inclusive educational environments within our community of faculty, students, and collaborators. The position will commence on August 16, 2025. The primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be to teach six courses per academic year, including both lecture-based and lab-oriented classes.

Required Qualifications
The minimum qualifications required are:
- At least one year of teaching experience in Urban Planning, Geography, Urban Data Science, or a related field;
- Completion of PhD in Urban Planning, Geography Urban Data Science, or a related field, or ABD status within those same fields, with a dissertation defense date before 8/15/2025:
- Proficiency in using data science and geospatial tools (e.g., R, Python, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, QGIS) in teaching and research settings.
We especially welcome candidates with teaching experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Transportation planning, including multimodal transportation systems.
- Geospatial data visualization and analysis.
- Cloud computing and CyberGIS.
- Data science methods applied to urban systems.
- A proven ability to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Experience in developing courses and curriculum.
- Experience advising undergraduate students.
- Experience teaching in online or hybrid learning environments.
- Demonstrated ability to foster a diverse and inclusive academic environment.
