The University of Illinois at Chicago Department of Microbiology and Immunology seeks a Visiting Research Specialist who will focus on research and scientific techniques within the fields of molecular virology and antiviral drug discovery. The position will conduct research, develop experimental protocols and devise methods to apply scientific principles and theories in research projects.
Job Duties
Planning and carrying out complex genetic crosses of mice and doing molecular genotyping.
Infecting the mice with different viruses; requires knowledge of working with mice in ABSL1 and willing to be trained to work in ABSL2 conditions.
Using molecular techniques (analysis of DNA and RNA) and cellular (FACS, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence) to look at infection.
Experienced in tissue culture and the isolation and titering of different viruses.
Analysis and preparation of data for publication and grant proposals.
Training new laboratory personnel in lab techniques.
Supervising graduate and undergraduate students in the lab.
Assisting postdoctoral fellows in designing and executing their experiments.
Present research findings at weekly laboratory meeting.
